Hey, my name is Kim and I’m an Illustrator and Artist based in Luxembourg. I studied 3 years abroad in Stuttgart where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Illustration. I love to illustrate nature related themes, both analogue and digitally. My strongest point is my realistic and picturesque style but also my good understanding of color. Moreover I have a good knowledge in Graphic Design and mastered several Adobe programs. The objective of my illustrations is to support and visualize the subject of a text or book, to make it visually appealing for the customer.
My journey as an artist and illustrator probably began in 2003 when I painted my first ever self-portrait. Since then, nothing has stopped me from drawing and painting. In the first twelve years of my life, I bombarded my parents and siblings with creative paintings and handcrafted things I made in my little „atelier“ and dreamed of becoming a proper artist someday. While many other children may have stopped drawing, painting, or crafting, I stuck to my passion.
Very soon I developed a preference of drawing some specific motives. For example, I’ve always admired people who could draw realistic portraits, so I tried it myself. Over and over again… always frustrated when my painting didn’t match the person’s real appearance. I was beyond fascinated when one day I finally managed to do it! I can still remember the exact moment when I realized I painted a portrait where everyone was able to recognize this particular person.
During the holidays, I often went with my family in the south of France, where I saw lots of artists exhibiting their landscape paintings. I always wondered how someone could manage to catch this massive beauty of the ocean or the mountains on a simple canvas. Today, painting colorful landscapes in gouache and oil paint has become one of my most favorite things to work on.
Not only landscapes inspired me, but everything nature related motivated me to practice my drawing skills. Climbing trees, picking flowers or building little cottages in our garden, all these things served me both then and now as an inspiration and motivation to pick up my pencil and to start drawing.
Another huge inspiration for me since my childhood years were animals. I was and always will be a big animal lover, which is why I also want to express their beautiful souls in my artworks. Especially our family dog Kayla always had to serve as a muse and motive in several of my paintings.
I always dreamt of being an artist and turning my beloved hobby into a career. After years of developing my illustrating and art skills I can proudly hold my bachelor diploma in my hands and call myself a graduated illustrator and artist. If Little Me could see me now she would really be proud to see what we’ve achieved so far and that we never stopped believing in ourselves and our dream.
